The Northumberland Public Library is reaching out to the community for its annual appeal fundraising drive for help in supporting it’s many services by asking for $10 donations.

The theme – “Give us your Hamiltons” enables smaller contributions to crowdsource into something big, said Library Director Cherie Carl.

“Support for our public library can be your legacy,” said Carl. “You don’t have to give a huge donation to make a difference.”

Carl said the library is tapping into the spirit of Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, whose life’s work inspires us ask – “How can we leave our own legacies for future Americans?”

“If every patron gave $10 to our library, we would be able to increase and strengthen our services to our community,” said Carl. “Libraries are no longer just lending books and Northumberland Public Library, being a rural library, is no exception.

The Northumberland Public Library “leaves the light on” providing internet 24/7 allowing patrons to pull into the parking lot after hours to file a job application or for a student to send in a research paper. That’s $10 a year for internet access! Donations will be used for new parking lot lights and to help keep the internet up and running.

Besides supporting the love of reading, art and music on site, your $10 will help to increase the reach of library’s Tech Mobile, which brings books, DVDs, office support and internet connection to Northumberland’s neighborhoods. The mobile library is the legacy of the generosity of contributors that began with Barbe Bonjour Pike, who made the initial donation for the project through her foundation named for her husband, Otis G. Pike Charitable Trust VIII.
