Northumberland organizations hold essay contest: “Why I Appreciate Our Local Police”

Three Northumberland organizations are teaming up to honor local law enforcement officials with an essay contest on, “Why I Appreciate Our Local Police.” The American Legion Post #117 of Reedville, the Marine Corps League of Callao and the Northumberland Public Library are offering three $50 cash prizes to the most outstanding essay submitted by county students. One winner will be chosen for each age category: elementary, middle and high school students who attend public, private schools or are homeschooled.

Entrants are required to provide a cover sheet with the title, student’s name, age, phone number and email address. One entry per student please. Submissions must be typed and no longer than one page double spaced. All submissions must be dropped off at the Northumberland Public Library in Heathsville or emailed to jbates@nplva.org by Tuesday, September 13th at 7 p.m.

Winners will be notified by phone or email prior to the “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” program on Saturday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. on the old Courthouse lawn in Heathsville. Winners must attend the event where they will get to read their submissions and be presented their cash prize.
