Firefighters, law enforcement and disaster preparedness experts from the Red Cross gave children an hour to remember during the July 15 Story Hour at the Northumberland Public Library. The subject was “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape” (Community Heroes) and those who came learned a lot about it.

The event, for children ages three and up, drew about two dozen kids and parents. After an indoor briefing, the kids and parents went outside for a special treat. They got a close look at a fire engine and equipment from the Callao Volunteer Fire Department. They also heard from a member of the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office and even got a chance to crawl through the cruiser.
