Dozens of children and adults attended the Northumberland Public Library’s July 6 Special Reading Event July 6 and were wowed by the Bright Star Theater’s presentation of several classic fairy tales.

The event – “Once Upon a Time” – was held at the Northumberland Family YMCA in Heathsville. The free Special Reading Event was sponsored by the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts.

The fairy tales included Rumplestiltskin, Little Red Riding Hood, the Cobbler and the Elves, and Rapunzel. On several occasions, the young audience was asked about some of the lessons that could be gleaned from the fairy tale. These lessons included the importance of being kind to others and the consequences of a person’s actions.

It was good,” said Katlyn Ambrose, 11, as she left the event. Her favorite fairy tale was Rumplestiltskin, she added. For Tony Brown, 11, his favorite was the Cobbler and the Elves. “It was funny,” he said.
