The Northumberland Public Library’s Second Annual Petting Zoo will be held on Thursday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to noon for kids of all ages. This exciting free event is being held during the library’s Summer Reading Program, “Every Hero Has a Story.”
According to Jan Bates, the library’s Coordinator of Children’s Programs, the animals will be in the field behind the library as well as in the Meeting Room inside. “Come and go as you please,” Bates said. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
No parking will be permitted on Route 360. Turn on to Courthouse Road and park there. Entry to the Petting Zoo will be on Courthouse Road and will be marked.
Animals scheduled to be on hand include a ball python, a chinchilla, a hedgehog, Gordon the Tortoise, sugar gliders, a Tegu lizard and more. Visitors also can see ducks, chickens, geese, an exotic bird, a piglet, bees in a glass hive, a gerbil, earthworms and a Bearded Dragon lizard, Bates said.
“Celebrate summer with this unusual local event then check out books about your favorite animals at the library,” Bates said. “Reading is the way to find out everything you ever wanted to know about any animal.”
The library is located at 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, VA 22473. Questions? Call the library at (804) 580-5051 for more information
