About 30 people – children, moms, grandparents and special friends – gathered at the Northumberland Public Library on April 2 to celebrate the first annual Grandparents and Special Friends Story Hour.
They observed the regular routines of the twice-monthly Listening Lambs at the Library Story Hour and joined in the crafts, songs, story time and refreshments. The children sang the story hour’s theme, “I Wanna Be A Lamb,” and “My Grandparents’ House.” Then they listened attentively to the stories: “Granddad’s Fishing Buddy,” “One Big Hug” and “My Granny Is A Pirate.”
The day’s craft was making Easter hats for the ladies and special bow ties for the gents. The special guests left with a gift – a flower or boutonniere – donated by Britt’s Flowers in Wicomico Church.
“It was so special for the children to introduce their guest and sing about what they do at their grandparents house,” said Jan Bates, the library’s Coordinator of Children’s Programs. “This event is a keeper and we will have another one next year.”
