Mark your calendars for a special event on Sunday April 26: an English Tea sponsored by the Northumberland Public Library’s Board of Trustees.
The special event, to be held at Westlawn, an elegant private residence, runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you’re a fan of the popular TV series “Downton Abbey,” you probably will feel right at home. Tickets are $20. Only 50 are available and may be purchased at the library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, VA 22473. Questions? Call the library at (804) 580-5051 for more information.
“This should be our most elegant English Tea so far, and ladies should feel free to wear a hat,” said Board of Trustees President Eve Jordan. “Last year’s English Tea was a great success and we expect this year’s event to surpass it.”
Harpist Susan Anthony-Tolbert will provide music during the English Tea. She has entertained audiences at the various historical venues, homes and auditoriums throughout Maryland and the Northern Neck of Virginia. Susan won both the Great Lakes International Music Competition for Harp and the Southern Maryland Celtic Music Festival Harp Solo. One of the most frequently requested artists on Radio Vermont, her 10 CDs for solo harp sold well both locally and nationally, receiving very favorable reviews. For her performances in Virginia she was nominated for the Governor’s Award for the Arts, for which she received a certificate of recognition.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Northumberland Public Library.
